An autoimmune condition, psoriasis affects up to 2.6 percent of the U.S population. It is characterized by red, flaky patches on the skin triggered by the overproduction of skin cells. While there is no known permanent cure for psoriasis, some home remedies have been found to relieve the symptoms.

Dietary Supplements

Some dietary supplements have been reported by the National Psoriasis Foundation to help ease mild psoriasis symptoms. These include; fish oil, milk thistle, Aloe Vera, Oregon grape, and vitamin D.

ACV (apple cider vinegar) is harsh on sensitive skin, before use; dilute the vinegar with an equal amount of water for a gentler treatment. Just make sure you’re not using on broken and cracked skin.



Just like its cousin ginger, turmeric contains anti-inflammatory properties and may be effective in treating psoriasis.  Curcumin, the active ingredient contained in the spice may lessen general body inflammation and reduce psoriasis symptoms.


In one recent review, of psoriatic research, the authors stated that evidence supports the therapeutic effects of curcumin as a psoriasis treatment.  With the result of a 2016 study in mice, researchers concluded that curcumin can be a potential treatment for psoriasis.  The supplement is available for purchase online and in stores and it comes in both pill and capsule form.


Avoid Fragrances

Most soaps, lotions, and perfumes contain fragrances, dyes, and other chemicals that can irritate your skin. True, you’ll smell great when you use them but they can also worsen your condition.

When you can, avoid those or pick only products labeled for people with sensitive skin. Or even better use unprocessed products made with 100% natural ingredients.


Consume Probiotic Foods

One way to aid digestion, remove toxins from the body, boost immunity and reduce inflammation is by consuming foods rich in probiotics. Regularly consume organic, raw and cultured dairy like yogurt to give your body the bacteria and yeast it needs to stay healthy.


Many psoriasis sufferers have shared their experiences with probiotics and how it cleared up stubborn psoriasis that had previously not responded to conventional treatments.


Increase Your Fiber Intake

Increase your intake of fiber-rich foods to help keep your digestive system as healthy as possible. This, in turn, reduces constipation and improves your body’s detoxification process. Food rich in fiber includes veggies, fruits, beans, and seeds.



While many have successfully managed both mild and severe psoriasis with home remedies alone, it is best to consult with a doctor if you’re considering other or additional treatment options.
